Thrifting Toolkit Checklist
I created my Thrifting Toolkit years ago to guide and inform my decisions when I go thrifting. Second-hand stores can get distracting because they’re filled with so many things; it’s very easy to pick something you don’t need that doesn’t fit into the spaces in your home or isn’t suitable for upcycling. The great thing about this toolkit is that you only need a few essentials, but they make a huge impact. I store my toolkit in a small, reusable canvas bag and keep it in the glovebox of my car. That way, it’s always with me when I go thrifting.

I thoroughly enjoy upcycling side tables. They are a key furniture piece in any living space and add lots of character. For this project, I wanted to repurpose a material I’ve had a long love affair with – cardboard – it’s so versatile. Most online shopping purchases arrive on our front doorstep in cardboard boxes, and I’m always stashing them away in my studio to repurpose in future projects. For this upcycled side table, I was inspired by classic design blended with modernist style using three simple tools and materials – painter’s tape, plaster (multi-purpose joint compound) and paint.
