YouTube: How To Upcycle Outdoor Furniture (for under $30!)

Let’s make a side table - from scratch!

I am so excited about this month’s YouTube episode because I get to help my friend Charlotte upcycle her dream poolside outdoor furniture for under $30! Anyone can complete this project in a couple of hours without needing any serious power tools or upcycling experience. I even use a rug - that’s right a RUG! - to reupholster one of the chairs. But let's quickly rewind…

A few months ago Charlotte told me she was looking for outdoor furniture set to put next to their pool so she could sit back and relax with her husband while they watch their 4 boys swim. Everything she saw was either really expensive or not her style, so when she asked for my help naturally I said yes! I had thrifted a wooden beach chair way back in May for $5 from my local tip shop, which I had been keeping in storage in our garage to upcycle during the summer months. When I showed it to Charlotte she loved it and told her my plans to repaint it and replace the canvas with a runner rug, she was so excited! I needed to find another outdoor chair so a few weeks back I found one (again for only $5!) that had a lot of potential - the arched arm rests reminded me of Charlotte's arched front door and because of this, I knew it was perfect.

Anyway, I really hope this episode shows you how easy it is to find something secondhand and inspired you to transform it into something you will cherish for years to come. You'll find the link to the materials and tools in the episode description, and I can't wait to see what you create. Happy making!

What’s happening over on YouTube?

Every month I go to someone's house and help them DIY and upcycle their dream piece of furniture from scratch, or upcycle something they no longer love but don't want to throw out in favour of buying something new, and transform it into something beautiful.
