DIY Bow Shoe Clips (Using Thrifted Ribbon!)

Add bows to all your shoes using thrifted ribbon!

Whenever I go thrifting always spend time looking through the haberdashery section - bed sheets, zippers, fabric, thread, buttons, wool and ribbon! When I was at one of my favourite charity shops I stumbled across some beautiful burgundy striped ribbon and an idea struck - I wondered if it was possible to tie this into a couple of bows and somehow attach it to my shoes? Hmmmm. I grabbed the ribbon, went home and got straight to work.

🕒 Project Time Estimate: 5-10 minutes

💰 Materials Cost: $5

Materials

Note: Make sure the ribbon width is wide enough to cover the shoe clip when it’s tied into a bow.

  • Scissors

  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks

How To

Step 1: Start by cutting the ribbon into two pieces. Tie each piece into a bow.

Step 2: Apply a small amount of hot glue onto the shoe clip (make sure you’re putting the glue on the correct side, I recommend testing a shoe clip onto a shoe first, usually it’s the widest/flattest side) and place the ribbon on top. Press down firmly but gently with your fingers, make sure the ribbon covers the shoe lip and hold in place until the glue dries (usually 30 seconds to 1 minute) and make sure the ribbon.

Step 3: Clip the DIY Bow Shoe Clips onto your shoes at the front, on the sides or on the back. And that’s it!

The Reveal

These DIY Bow Shoe Clips using thrifted ribbon are soooooo cute! I love how versatile they are - you can make them big or small, match the colour of the ribbon to the colour of the shoe, use ribbon that contrasts with the shoe, and place the bows in different positions on the shoe. What a dream! And best of all, the DIY Bow Shoe Clips easily come on and off.
