Upcycled Pedestal Fruit Basket

As you guys know I am always on the lookout to breathe new life into secondhand pieces of home decor and I love seeing people transform old bowls and vases  into DIY Pedestal Bowls using paint and glue - they look stunning! This trend has actually been around for a really long time and it reminded me that I put my own spin on it last year. Instead of using a bowl, I used basket when I flipped these thrift shop vases. I didn't really think too much of it because I was more focused on decorating the vases but when I stumbled across two flat woven baskets at a charity shop, I knew I had to go back and explore that idea more. And it couldn't be any more easy! Read on to make your very own Pedestal Fruit Basket.

Before & After

Materials

  • Flat woven basket with short sides. I found mine at a charity store for $1 each. As you can see a woven basket with sides also works beautifully.

  • Vase

  • Paint in your colour of choice, I used Dulux Lexicon Quarter from Bunning.

  • Optional: Dulux Texture Paint from Bunnings

  • Paint brush

  • Cardboard or drop sheet

  • Selleys Liquid Nails from Bunnings

How To

Wipe down the surface of the vase so it's clean and decide if you will turn the vase upside down or not. Sometimes they'll look better if you do! Apply one to three coats of paint. If you'd like to add texture, paint one coat of Dulux Texture Paint and set aside to dry for at least 24 hours.

When the paint has dried, apply a thin line of glue around the edge of the painted vase and firmly press the basket on top. Set aside to dry.

Ta daaaa! A cute upcycle that will add charm to your kitchen and table.

I love this upcycled because it's so simple yet so beautiful. It adds so much charm and character, and you can easily start and finish this project in a few hours. I have had so much joy styling and layering this Upcycled Pedestal Basket with citrus, fruit and vegetables! And I know you will too.
